DARLINGTON – Bids were opened at the Multi-Use Facility Committee meeting on Monday, June 12, 2017. The committee received five general contractor bids, two electrical bids, one HVAC bid and one general construction bid for a 248’ x 80’ partial cold storage and partial meeting room building.
    Tom Jean, Lafayette County Highway Commissioner, made it clear a decision would not be made at this meeting and then turned the proceedings over to project design engineer, Keith Dalsing, from KD Engineering, who opened the bids and read them aloud.
    The bids were open with the following results: General Contractor bids include: Rock Church Construction, Inc. of Livingston total bid of $938,000 (General construction – $613,700, HVAC - $54,500, Electrical - $69,000, Plumbing - $52,800 and concrete and foundation - $148,000); Midwest Roofing and Construction, LLC of Dodgeville total bid of $848,970 (General construction – $469,594, HVAC - $67,376, Electrical - $71,000, Plumbing - $84,000 and concrete and foundation - $157,000); Stone Mill Construction, LLC of Monroe total bid $1,065,160 (General construction – $756,753, HVAC - $54,407, Electrical - $70,000, Plumbing - $48,000 and concrete and foundation - $136,000); Midwest Builders, Inc of Fennimore total bid was $962,473 (General construction – $634,982, HVAC - $54,406, Electrical - $69,000, Plumbing - $52,800 and concrete and foundation - $151,285); Morton Building, Inc. of Dodgeville total bid was $934,223 (General construction – 551,860, HVAC - $64,937, Electrical - $101,739, Plumbing - $63,021 and concrete and foundation - $152,666).
    Nodolf Lumber bid on the general construction of the building at $389,000; Fritz’s Burner Service bid on HVAC at $56,500; two bids on electric only were Hoffman Electric Service of Mineral Point at $59,000 and Norse Electric of Gratiot at $86,500. The electric bids will be checked to see if both companies were bidding on the same thing.
    After the bids were read the committee discussed their options. For general contractor they had received bids ranging for $848,970 to $1,065,160. Some of the committee members thought the county could do better if they chose Nodolf Lumber to build the building and have the electric, HVAC, plumbing all separately chosen. Unfortunately there was no separate plumbing bid so all the bids would need to be refused – according to the committee.
    Along those lines, Jean stated that the County Highway Department could and will do the concrete and foundation work for the project. It wasn’t stated if the Highway Department would need to submit a bid for that portion of the project.
    Decisions would be made at their next meeting scheduled for Wednesday, June 21 at 8:00 a.m. Chairman Gerald Heiman said they need to get this decided because the “construction window” is getting close to closing.
    The only other item was Dalsing stated all the plans have been approved by the state.
