The “Big Beef Blitz,” is a high school sports promotion and community outreach campaign sponsored by the Wisconsin Beef Council in partnership with local radio stations like 97 Seven Country WGLR. Listeners may then nominate their favorite local school during the fall sports season to receive the donation.
The Fennimore Community School District was awarded through a nomination by Fennimore Elementary School teacher Emily Kamps.
Wisconsin Beef Council Executive Director Tammy Vaassen, and Amy Mitchell, whose Spring Creeks Cattle Company near Boscobel supplied the 70 pounds of ground beef, brought the donated beef to the elementary school last Thursday, and was accepted by Kamps and Fennimore Community School District Administrator Jane Wonderling.
Vaassen stated that the campaign “looks to share nutritious beef to the district’s young people and athletes to enhance their performances on and off the field.”
Wonderling stated that the district kitchen staff would be “cooking up” special recipes with the donated beef to further promote the beef council.
