Crews are working to repair a fiber optic cable that was cut by a construction crew in Platteville that has caused serious telecommunications issues, including knocking the county's 911 emergency call system offline, as well as affecting long distance in the southern portion of the county.

An estimated time for repairs places the fix to be made by sometime this evening. Because of this, all emergency calls should be made to either the Grant County Sheriff's Department at 723-2157, or to the Platteville Police Department at 348-2313.

The area most affected is the southern portion of the county, including Platteville, Cuba City, Hazel Green, Potosi, Dickeyville and Kieler. Calling the Platteville Police Department at 348-2313 will relay emergency messages to the proper emergency responders.
