Area struck by storms Monday morning

For most of Monday, residents and businesses across southwest Wisconsin dealt with the aftermath of a powerful line of storms that came through in the morning, bringing with them strong winds and heavy rains.

The storms came through central and southern Grant County, as well as Lafayette County in the morning. In Grant County, the worst damaged areas included Cassville, Lancaster, Potosi, Platteville, and Hazel Green, while area around Belmont in Lafayette County saw several buildings damaged.

As of 5 p.m., there were still 3,499 Grant County customers without power, down from 5,500 reported earlier this afternoon.

From Grant County Emergency Management, an estimate of about 30 agricultural buildings (sheds, barns, bins, etc) destroyed or severely damaged, primarily in the southern areas around Cassville, Lancaster, Platteville, and Hazel Green. An estimated 20 homes with moderate damage and more than three hundred homes significantly affected (primarily roof damage from wind and fallen trees).
