TOWN OF BELMONT — Lafayette County authorities are investigating a reported stabbing on West Mound Road Monday night.

A 20-year-old Platteville man reported that he was confronted by five masked men in a black Ford F-150 extended-cab pickup while he was walking around 8:40 p.m. According to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department, one of the men demanded his wallet, the victim refused to give it to him, and an altercation followed.

The victim told authorities that he injured three of the men, but was stabbed with a knife. The victim was taken by a passerby to Southwest Health Center in Platteville, where he was treated and released.

Platteville police and Grant and Iowa county sheriff’s deputies assisted at the scene.
