Anthony (Tony) Tarnowski joined his Lord on Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011 at Orchard Manor, Lancaster.
    Tony was born to Adam and Angela (Kurcon) Tarnowski on June 6, 1926 in Hammond, Ind. He graduated from high school and went into the military. He spent his 18th birthday (D-Day) on Omaha Beach in southern France. He was in the Infantry and marched across France and Germany. Tony wouldn’t speak much about World War II, but would tell his step-son and grandchildren what books they could read that were based on truth or fiction. Tony met Margery Becker and they married May 22, 1954. They lived the first half of their lives in Hammond, Ind. In 1976 they moved to Stitzer after he retired from the City of Hammond. He then went to work for the Grant County Highway Department and remained there until he reached 65. In 1982, Tony and Marge moved to Lancaster, where he lived out his life. Tony was a member of the Masons and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, road trips, cooking/baking, and telling jokes.
    He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Margery, Lancaster; step-son, George (Diane) Foreyt, Bloomington; four grandchildren, Anthony Charles Foreyt, Bagley, Julie (Steven) Ceithamer, Mt. Horeb, David (Christal) Foreyt, Fennimore, and Darci (Jon) Blair-Foreyt, Woodman; 13 great-grandchildren (with one due in September); and two great-great grandchildren; his sister, Helen Greski, Hammond, Ind.; and three nephews, Jim, Bob, and John Greski.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, John, Stanley, Francis, and Ted; and sisters, Josephine and Katherine.
    The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27 at Larson Family Funeral Home in Fennimore with burial at Rock Church Cemetery in Clifton Township, Grant County, with Military Honors.
