Platteville junior leads Hillmen to SWC title while winning third straight Player of the Year honor

Platteville junior Cole Herbst shot an impressive even par 72 at last Tuesday's SWC Championships to earn meet medalist honors while leading the Hillmen to a first-place finish and another conference title.

Cole Herbst, Jr., Platteville boys golf team

Platteville junior Cole Herbst shot an impressive even par 72 at last Tuesday's SWC Championships to earn meet medalist honors while leading the Hillmen to a first-place finish and another conference title.

Platteville shot a combined 319 to finish ahead of runner-up Lancaster (331), Dodgeville (334), River Valley (349), Prairie du Chien (373) and Richland Center (392).

The Hillmen (22) also finsihed 3.5 points ahead of Lancaster (19.5) in the final SWC team standings, which were determined by team points scored at three regular season 18-hole meets and last week's conference championship tournament.

In the process of leading Platteville to team glory, Herbst also clinched his third straight SWC Player of the Year honor by finishing first in the season-long individual SWC standings with 335 points, ahead of Lancaster seniors Brady Mack (317.5) and Aidan Wilson (307.5).

Besides Herbst’s Player of the Year honors, the Hillmen earned multiple other All-SWC awards. Herbst and Weittenhiller were named to the All-SWC first team (top five golfers), while Simmons and Blevins earned All-SWC honors, after placing ninth and 10th in the final individual SWC standings. Voigts finished 17th in the individual standings and just missed out on All-SWC honors.

Herbst went on to shoot a 1-under par 69 to finsih second to Mineral Point senior Drew Aschliman (66) while leading Platteville to the team title at this Tuesday's WIAA Division 2 Monroe Regoinal at the Monroe Golf Club.

Herbst and the Hillmen will be back in action Tuesday at the WIAA D2 New Glarus Sectional at Edleweiss Chalet Country Club.

HONORABLE MENTION (in alphabetical order):
Drew Aschliman, Sr., Mineral Point boys golf
Aschliman shot a 1-under-par 71 to win last Tuesday's SWAL Conference Meet at Edleweiss Chalet Country Club and lead his Pointers to a second-place finsih behind champion Cuba City/Benton/Southwestern. Aschliman's first-place finsih last Tuesday also clinched this year's SWAL Player of the Year award for finsihing first in the final individual SWAL standings with 301.5 points, just ahead of CC/B/S senior Ben Thill (296.5). Aschliman went on to shoot a sparkling 4-under par 66 to win medalist honors and lead Mineral Point to a fifth place finsih at this Tuesday's WIAA Division 2 Monroe Regoinal at the Monroe Golf Club. Aschliman will be back in action Tuesday at the WIAA D2 New Glarus Sectional at Edleweiss Chalet Country Club.

Zane Cartwright, Sr., hurdles, Dodgeville/Mineral Point boys track and field
Cartwright won long jump (20'2.25"), the 110-meter hurdles (15.59 seconds) and 300 hurdles (40.98), and placed fourth in the triple jump (41'4") to scored 34 team points to help Dodge/Point score 115 points to earn a share of the boys' team title at last Tuesday's SWC Conference Meet.

Maddie Driscoll, So., distance/jumps, Lancaster girls track and field
Driscoll won the 400-meter in a new SWC meet record 58.07 seconds, won the 1,600 meters at 5:36.05, was on the winning 4x400 relay team (4:15.21) and placed second in the triple jump (33'8.5") to score 30.5 teams points at last Tuesday's SWC Conference track and field meet to help the Lancaster girls (184.5) run away with the team title ahead of Platteville (87).

Marshall Harris, Jr., distance, Lancaster boys track and field
Harris won the 400 meters (50.29), 800 (2:02.75) and was on the winning 4x400 relay (3:35.27) to help the Lancaster boys win a share of the team title with 115 points (tying Dodgeville/Mineral Point) at last Tuesday's SWC Conference Meet.

Lexie Olmstead, Fr, jumps/sprints, Lancaster girls track and field
Olmstead won high jump (5'6"), long jump (17'1") and triple jump (35'11.5") and finished third in the 200 (27.42) to score at team-high 36 teams points at last Tuesday's SWC Conference track and field meet to help the Lancaster girls (184.5) run away with the team title ahead of Platteville (87).

Carsyn Ramaker, Jr., P, Belmont softball
Ramaker struck out 10 batters in a 3–0 shutout win over Six Rivers rival Potosi/Cassville last Tuesday evening and went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored in the game. The junior then went 2-for-4 with a triple and five RBI and struck out seven in four innings to earn the pitching win in the Braves' 13–3 five-inning WIAA Division 5 regional semifinal victory over Highland this past Tuesday night. Ramaker entered Thursday night's regional final batting .481 with 10 doubles, 3 triples, 2 home runs, 25 RBI, 35 runs scored and 12 stolen bases, and holds a 15–6 record with a 2.56 ERA and 169 strikeouts in 125 2/3 innings pitched.

Ben Thill, Sr., Cuba City/Benton/Southwestern boys golf
Thill shot a 3-over par 75 to finsih third and lead the Cubans to the team title at last Tuesday's SWAL Conference Meet at Edleweiss Chalet Country Club. Tuesday's team victory also helped CC/B/S clinch this year's SWAL conference title, ending Mineral Point's 10-year reign at conference champion. Thill went on to shoot a 77 and lead the Cuba City co-op to a third place finsih at this Tuesday's WIAA Division 2 Monroe Regoinal at the Monroe Golf Club. Thill and the Cubans will be back in action Tuesday at the WIAA D2 New Glarus Sectional at Edleweiss Chalet Country Club.
