BELMONT NATIVE Ken Van Bogaert hit four home runs in seven at-bats over the 315-foot fences to win the Baden National Homerun Derby at the SPA World Championships held in Dalton, GA., in August. Playing for Roberts Construction in the 55 major plus division and swinging the Demarini Senior One, Van Bogaert also led the team in average and homeruns, and was named to the All-World team. Earlier in the year in Cocoa Beach, Fl, his son, Bret Van Bogaert, took second in Softball Magazine’s Spring Training Homerun Contest. Bret had won the event the previous two years. The Van Bogaerts along with Destiny Glasson, who heads up the fastpitch program, teach rotational hitting for baseball, fastpitch softball and slowpitch softball at their three-cage facility in Belmont. They also do clinics and teach nationally via their website at www.sportstechnique.com.
