GAME OF THE WEEK (Dec. 24–Dec. 30)

WRESTLING: 34th annual Bi-State Classic, Tuesday-Wednesday, Dec. 29-30 (at La Crosse Civic Center)

     The La Crosse Civic Center will play host to some of the best wrestlers in Wisconsin and Minnesota at the two-day 34th annual Bi-State Classic next Tuesday and Wednesday. The 58-team event will begin at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday morning with preliminary matches. Wrestlebacks and quarterfinals will be held Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. The semifinal round will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, followed by placement matches for seventh, ninth and 11th-place. The fourth and final session will begin with a parade of champions at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday with placement matches for first, third and fifth for each weight class.

     Adult all-session passes cost $30, while student all-session passes are going for $30. Individual adult session passes are $10, students are $8. Finals tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students.

     Below is a list of area participating teams and their top wrestlers this year.

 

Belmont/Platteville

113 — Isaac Wiegel (12–2), so. — won the 113-pound title at last week's Richland Center Invitational. Wiegel placed seventh at Bi-State at 106 a year ago.

 

Boscobel

160 — Preston Baker (6–4), jr. — placed third at 160 at last Saturday's Richland Center Invite

 

Cuba City/Benton/Southwestern

152 — Josh Donar (10–1), sr.— finished second at the Sugar River Raider Scramble on Dec. 12. Donar placed 11th at Bi-State at 138 two years ago as a sophomore.

285 — Aaron McCarthy (11–1), jr. — placed second at Suger River.

 

Dodgeville

106 — Max Miller (7–2), so. — won the 106-pound title at Sugar River Scramble on Dec. 12.

138 — John Phelan (10–1), so. — finished 2nd at 138 at Sugar River. He placed 12th at Bi-State at 126 a year ago.

145 — Noah Durst (8–3), so. — placed third at 145 at Sugar River.

170 — Zach Weber (9–2), so. — won the 170-pound title at Sugar River.

220 — Shelby Jones (9–2), so. — finished third at 220 at Sugar River.

285 — Payton Calvert (10–1), sr. — won the 285-pound title at Suger River. He also placed 11th at Bi-State at 220 pounds a year ago.

113 — Sawyer Sarbacker (14–1), jr. — won 113-pound title at Dubuque Invite on Dec. 5. He also placed sixth at Bi-State at 106 pounds last year.

160 — Brady Peat (14–2), so. — finished third at 160 at Dubuque Invite.
