Men’s Golf League
Aug. 7
With only two weeks left in the regular season, the Men of Monday Night are scrambling to see who will face off with the first half winner, DDS, for the overall championship of 2017.
The second half has turned into a battle of six teams who have a legitimate shot at the title. Legends II defeated Jean Construction 4-1 on Monday night to grab a share of first place alongside of the Hotshots, who handed Legends a 3 ½ to 1 ½ point loss.
Fritz’s Burners got a solid team effort to flush Reilly Plumbing 4 ½ to ½ and join My Turn Pub in a tie for third place, as My Turn was defeated by Blackbourn’s 3 ½ to 1 ½. Wagner Pest Control swatted DDS 4-1 and the Club butchered Avon Locker 5-0, while Mexican Cheese and The New Guys/TriCom split their match.
Only four golfers were able to break 40 led by Bryan Black at 36. Brent Tuescher carded a 38, and Aric Barnard and Jonathon Fechner fired 39s.
Mike Curry’s nice tee shot on #5 won him both a flag prize and a skin, and Jonathon Fechner garnished a birdie/skin on #8 with a chip-in.
The other flags were won by: Cody Bredeson’s tee shot on #1, Tom Jean’s long putt on #2, Lucas Ritchie’s long drive on #7, Doug Reicher’s chip-in on #8 and a long putt on #9 by Pastor Nick.
Low team net was scored by The Club as they also had a 5-point night.
The remaining schedule will see two more weeks of regular league play along with at least one fun night, which will include the annual steak and sweet corn feed. The course is in fantastic shape following all of the heavy rains, a tribute to Lee, Kyle and their crew and all of the clean- up work.

With just one week remaining in the league season, the race for the second-half championship has heated up. Fritz’s Burners, led by team captain, Don Hastert, shooting a career best round of 34, exploded for a 5-0 shutout of Blackbourn’s to move into a tie for the lead. Don was joined by brother, Tim Hastert, along with Greg Schulte and Mike Ritchie to card the lowest team net score of the season at 123.
Legends II got by My Turn Pub 3-2 to hang onto a share of the lead despite a nice round of 37 by Larry Noble. The Hotshots rode Puppy Whitford’s 38 to a split with DDS  to stay in contention, just ½ point back. John Knellwolf carded a 36 and Torry Thulli a 39 for DDS.
Brent Tuescher was medalist on this night with a blistering score of 31, including five birdies; while Adam Reichling added a solid 36 to give Reilly Plumbing a 4-1 win over Wagner Pest Control, who was led by Dean Wagner with a 38.  Brian Bredeson and Karl Leahy shot 38 and 39, respectively, as Legends bested Mexican Cheese 4 ½ to ½. Jean Construction got by The Club 3-2 and Pastor Nick’s 38 helped the New Guys/TriCom defeat Avon 4-1.
I’d like to think that the talent level has risen to a new height during the year to produce this week’s results, but I’m afraid that we just caught the Golf Gods on an off day and revenge could be tough in the near future. Ten different golfers scored below 40 and 17 different birdies were made on the night, which makes for fun times and great stories in the Clubhouse.
Flag prize winners included: Larry Noble’s tee shot on #1, Don Hastert’s chip-in on #3, Pastor Nick’s tee shot on #5, along with his booming drive on #7, and long putts on #8 and #9 by Doug Reichers and Ray Spellman.
With all the birdies scored on the night, only Peter Jay Parkinson’s on #1 and Greg Schulte’s on #7 held up for Skins.  It’s hard to believe that the summer has flown by so fast and that there is only one more week of league play plus the season-ending fun night remaining, so get out and enjoy the course while the weather is so great.

It is hard to believe we only have three more weeks left on the season. Five teams are within one game of each other, so it will be interesting. Dave was hot & Chappy was not as Dave & Rod now look to play the spoilers in taking 2 of 3 from Eric & Chappy. Shirly didn’t get much help from Cary but they still managed 2 wins over Dusty & Lance. Jeremy & Mike had an even split with Mike & Donny to move within 1/2 game of 1st place. Adam & sub Bob Mosley managed 2 from Jim & sub Jared White.
    High games: Eric 113, Mike G. 109, Mike H. 106. High series: Mike H. 306, Dave 303, Adam 302. High ringers: Mike H. 72, Adam 70, Dusty 53.

Thursday, Aug. 3
High winds and cold temperatures made for low scores as it felt more like the first night of the season than a typical August evening. Very few were able to break 100 and The Mayor was the only one to pitch a 300 series. In the battle for 1st place, Dusty & Lance took 2 from Eric & Chappy. Jeremy & sub Jared White managed 2 from Cary & Shirly to move into 2nd place. Mike & Donny took 2 from Adam & Kevin, while Dave & Rod also took 2 from Bob & Jim.
High games: Dusty 113, Dave 105, Chappy & Bob 101. High series: Dave 300, Dusty 288, Kevin 285. High ringers: Dusty 59, Mike 51, Adam 46.

It is hard to believe we only have one week left in the season. It will be an exciting week with 1-½ games separating 1st place from 5th place. The bottom three teams in the standings all have a chance to play spoiler to their opponent.
Last week, Dusty & Lance fell from 1st to 4th after dropping all 3 to Adam & Kevin. Jeremy & Mike took 2 from Dave & Rod to move into 1st place. Eric & Chappy both pitched well in taking 2 from Mike & sub Jared White. Cary & Shirly remained in the running by taking 2 from Bob & Jim.

    High games: Adam 118, Mike H. 116, Chappy 114. High series: Adam 319, Eric 308, Chappy 305. High ringers: Adam 66, Mike H. 59, Dusty 58.
