The North Crawford Cross country teams traveled to Barre Mills on Tuesday, Oct. 4 to compete in the Chileda Classic held at Fox Hollow Golf Course. There were 14 teams present representing all divisions and the Trojan teams did well.
Though very short handed, only two girls competed, the girls team did well. Junior Rosa Thill raced very well and was the first Trojan to finish the 2.5-mile race in 31st place in a time of 18:39.3. Veteran senior Anna Schellhorn also raced well and finished not far behind Thill in 40th place in a time of 18:48.2.
Onalaska runner Emily Symons won the girls race in a great time of 15:44.4 out of a field of 103 runners.
The boys had a sub-par day and finished in 10th place with 278 points as a team. Central won the meet with 33 points followed by Onalaska with 50 and Logan with 94. Senior Zach McCann was the first Trojan across the line in 27th position in a time of 19:13.7. Next was Tyler Olson in 82nd in 21:24.1 followed by Jared Childs in 86th in 21:28.6, Sever Kvigne in 96th in 22:02.4 and rounding out the field was Mattias Dworshack in 107th in a time of 22:31.8.
Winning the boys 3.1-mile race was Ali Jandal of Central in a time of 16:43.1 out of 153 runners.
The runners were treated to some unexpected nice weather as the season winds down. The teams have just a few weeks to hone their skills and should be fun to watch at the conference and sectional meets.
“The kids are working very hard in practice and each has their favorite courses whether it is hills or flatter courses,” North Crawford Cross Country Coach Mike Allbaugh said. “There is much inexperience in the runners on the team this year and they are learning a ton about running. They have come a long way so far and should be fun to watch at the end of the year.”
