Potosi junior Christian Bauer won the conference title in the boys 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 18.75 seconds. He also placed third in the 300 hurdles and sixth in the long jump.

PLATTEVILLE — The Benton/Scales Mound/Shullsburg girls’ and boys’ track and field teams swept the titles at the Six Rivers Conference Meet for the fourth year in a row.

BSMS won 12 of the 18 events to capture the girls’ championship crown with 198 points, while the boys’ team won eight events to roll to the conference title with 203 points at UW–Platteville on Monday.

Albany was second in each meet with 144 points in the girls’ meet and 136 in the boys’ meet, and River Ridge placed third in both meets with 101 and 122 points, respectively.

Belmont placed sixth overall in both meets after earning 44 and 38 points, while Potosi placed seventh in each meet with 40 and 20 points respectively in their first Six Rivers Conference meet.

After 13 seasons without a track and field option for Potosi High School, the Chieftains returned to the track this spring under the direction of head coach Jake Reuter.

Potosi last participated in track and field as part of a co-op with Lancaster in 2003. The Chieftains were part of the co-op for eight years from 1996–2003.

Monday afternoon, Potosi junior Christian Bauer became the school’s first conference champion in more than a decade when he claimed a conference title in the boys’ 110 high hurdles with a winning time of 18.75 seconds. He also placed third in the 300 hurdles (47.79) and sixth in the long jump (17’4”). Sophomore Nathaniel Schmitt finished seventh in the 3,200 (14:22.2).

Schmitz placed fourth in the 100 hurdles (18.29) and Reynolds finished fourth in the 300 hurdles (55.61).
Sophomore Grace Morgan finished fourth in the shot put (30’6”) and eighth in the discus (85’0”).

The Lady Braves also did well in the throwing events. Freshman Jenna Richardson was second in the shot put (31’6”), while freshman Elsie de Haan took third in the shot (31’5”) and the discus (96’8”) and freshman Sarah Wrege placed fourth in the discus (91’4”) and sixth in the shot (29’8”).
