HIGHLAND — Potosi’s string of ejections in last Monday’s forfeit loss at Belmont essentially cost the Chieftains two conference losses.

Potosi forfeited the game at Belmont trailing 10–8 in the top of the fifth inning after five players — and a handful of Potosi fans were ejected.

One player was ejected for mocking the umpires after hitting a homer in retaliation to a perceived bad call earlier in the game, and the fans and four other players for angry comments made toward the umpires following the initial ejection.

With just eight available players, Potosi head coach Ron Kading elected to forfeit the game.

Per WIAA rules, any player ejected from a game must also serve a one-game suspension the following contest.

Kading and the Potosi administration took a step further, suspending the entire varsity team — not just the five players ejected at Belmont — for last Tuesday’s Six Rivers West conference game at Highland for their lack of sportsmanship in the incident a day earlier.

The suspended varsity team sat on the bench and watched as the Potosi JV took an 18–1 conference loss in the varsity game.

Wade Brown bunted for Potosi’s only hit in the top of hte fourth inning, moved to second on an overthrow and later scored on Jared Wunderlin’s ground out.

Back to full strength on Friday, Potosi swept host Monticello/Albany 6–1 and 6–5.

Potosi scored three in the second inning. Nic Spriggs was hit by a pitch with bases loaded to score Jake Eastlick. Jaydon Carbone then singled in Ben Udelhofen and Max Udelhoven.

Logan Schmitz added an RBI double and Eastlick had an RBI single as Potosi scored three more in the fifth.

The Chieftains (8–4, 6–3 SRC) scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to walk-off with a 6–5 win on Jaydon Carbone’s game-winning RBI single.

Monday afternoon, Eastlick (5–0) struck out nine and allowed just one run on five hits as Potosi defeated visiting Highland 5–1 in a rematch.
