River Ridge wins Six Rivers volleyball tourney at Monticello

         MONTICELLO – The River Ridge varsity volleyball team is off to a great start this season, as they took top honors at last Saturday’s Six Rivers East Tournament  held at Monticello High School.

     Coach Diane Langmeier’s Timberwolves went 9-2 on the day, and didn’t really have much competition until the championship match.

     In pool play, River Ridge defeated Juda, 2-0, Blackhawk 2-0 and then split with Juda 1-1.

     In their semifinal match, the Timberwolves met up with Shullsburg, and handed them a 25-13 loss in the first set. The Miners came back to with the second set, 25-21, but River Ridge closed out the match with a 15-8 victory in the third.

     In the championship match, River Ridge took the court against Darlington, and pulled out two straight wins of 25-23, 25-23.

     Senior Bridgette Myers led the team with 39 total kills and 25 assists to go along with 24 digs and six service aces.

     Freshman Taylor Langmeier added 20 kills and seven blocks, while senior Amber Patterson also finished with seven blocks to go along with 17 kills and six service aces. Sydney Bloom came away with a team-high 59 digs, while Sam Steiger had 23 assists.

     Last Thursday night in a non-conference season opener, the Timberwolves swept visiting Kickapoo, 25-11, 25-11 and 25-15.

     Myers finished the match with a team-high 15 kills, five digs, six assists and two service aces, while Langmeier added six kills and 11 assists. Bloom led the team with eight digs, while Sierra Schier served up four aces and Amber Patterson two blocks.

     Following this past Tuesday  night’s match at Benton, the Timberwolves will host Highland on Thursday night.
