First Round prep football playoffs in the books
Seven area teams advance

Lanacaster quarterback Justin Hore rushed for 214 yards and a pair of touchdowns and threw for another, and the Arrows needed every bit of his magnificent performance. Lancaster survived a 45-42 shootout with Arcadia Friday night in the first round of the WIAA Division 4 playoffs. The unbeaten and second-seeded Arrows (10-0) advanced to face No. 3 seed Westby in a game that will be held this Friday or Saturday.    The first round of the playoffs continued Saturday with a number of area teams being upset.

   In Division 7, Six Rivers co-champion and second-seeded Potosi (8-2) was bounced by unseeded Hillboro, 34-32. The Tigers will now face No. 3 Seneca, which ousted Cassville with a 14-0 decision.

   Top-seed Highland and unseeded Belmont advanced from the area and will face each other this weekend. Black Hawk was also a 34-7 winner in D7.

   All three local teams participating in Division 6 were eliminated. Southwestern fell to No. 3 Bangor, 38-30, Iowa-Grant to No. 2 seed Blair-Taylor, 13-0, and Pec/Argyle lost to No. 4 Kickapoo/La Farge, 6-0.

   Top-seeded Darlington (7-3), the SWAL champion, was bounced from the Division 5 bracket with a heart-breaking 44-43 double overtime loss to unseeded Cambridge (8-2). In the opposite D5 bracket Cuba City rolled Mondovi Friday night 38-13.

   In Division 4 No. 4 Brodhead/Juda (8-2) routed Platteville (8-2), 55-20. After starting the season 8-0 the Hillmen finished the year with back-to-back losses. River Valley was eliminated with a 41-33 loss to No. 2 Marshall.
