Lancaster's Tricia Petrowitz scored a team-high 12 points and pulled down six rebounds against Cuba City Tuesday, night, Nov. 29, but it wasn't enough for the Arrows to prevent a 46-44 loss.

CUBA CITY - It wasn’t the way coach Brett Rollins had hoped to start the 2011-12 basketball season, but despite a 46-44 loss to host Cuba City last Tuesday night, he was pleased with his team’s effort and its performance.

The Flying Arrows and Cubans gave those in attendance a good show last Tuesday night, as neither team held a big lead during the contest, and it all came down to the final play of the game to decide a winner.

With the score tied at 44-44, Lancaster had the ball with an opportunity to take the lead, but turned it over on a traveling call against Cuba City’s pressure defense.

Following a Cuba City timeout, freshman guard Chloe Pustina, dropped in a 10-foot runner in the lane to give the Cubans a 46-44 lead as time expired.

Prior to the exciting finish, Cuba City was working with a six-point lead, which Lancaster’s Kate Noble cut into with two big  3-point baskets.

Noble took just two shots the entire game and finished with seven points and three assists, but it was senior Tricia Petrowitz leading the Arrows with 12 points and six rebounds.

Adding nine points was Emily Martin, while Shelly Morgan had seven to go with a team-high three steals.

From the floor, coach Brett Rollins’ squad made 15-of-38 (39%) field goal attempts, including 4-of-9 (44%) from long range.

Both teams were 10-of-14 (71%) from the charity stripe Tuesday night.

Following this past Tuesday night’s road game at River Ridge, the Flying Arrows will head to Barneveld on Saturday, where the J.V. game will start at 1 p.m. followed by the varsity at about 2:30.
