Boy, 9, killed in UTV crash

TOWN OF GRATIOT — A 9-year-old boy was killed in a utility-terrain vehicle crash on a farm in the Town of Gratiot Saturday afternoon.

Drew Holland died when the UTV crashed into a pile of hay in a field on the farm on South Prairie Road and overturned around 4:45 p.m., according to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department.

Holland was one of four people on a UTV when it hit the pile of hay and overturned. He was partially ejected from the UTV, according to the sheriff’s department.

Holland was taken to the Monroe Clinic emergency room by Warren, Ill., ambulance. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Also responding to the call was Jo Daviess County, Ill., sheriff’s deputies, Warren police, Gratiot fire and First Responders, and the state Department of Natural Resources.

The sheriff’s department, Lafayette County coroner and DNR are investigating.
