Host Cassville/Potosi wins girls team title at own 10-team meet
CASSVILLE — The Cassville/Potosi girls track and field team won its own 10-team invitational Thursday in near perfect conditions
Junior Brielle Fishnick led the way on the sunny 75-degree day claiming gold medals in the girls 100-meter dash (13.17 seconds), long jump (15’4”), triple jump (33’5”) and the 4x100 relay (54.36), along with senior Iris Adams, freshman Grace Eastlick and sophomore Irelyn Walsh.
Fishnick scored 32.5 of the Cassville/Potosi girls’ 152.5 team points. Argyle/Pecatonica finished second with 123 points, followed by Benton/Scales Mound/Shullsburg (107.5), River Ridge (88), Belmont (72), Iowa–Grant (58.5), Black Hawk (48.5) and the Tri-State Homeschool Falcons (39).
Senior Grace Laufenberg scored 21 team points by winning the 200 at 28.38 seconds and the 400 at 1:03.59, and teamed with freshmen Norah Post and Rachel Vosberg, and senior Lainey Riedl to place fifth in the 4x400 relay (4:51.12).
Eastlick won the discus (113’5”) and finished second in the shot put (34’0”), setting new school records in both events, and placed third in the 100 at 13.61 seconds.
Walsh tied for third in the long jump (13’10”), and placed fifth in the 200 (29.59) and sixth in the 100 (14.12), while sophomore Jessa Caley finished third in the 3,200 run (15:34.15), and teamed with Post, Riedl and junior Allie Kaufman to place third in the 4x800 relay at 11:54.78.
The Cassville/Potosi boys were equally impressive medaling in three of the four relays and scoring 114 team points to place third behind only Benton/Scales Mound/Shullsburg (134.5) and River Ridge (128.33) in the boys standings.
The 4x400 relay team consisting of juniors Hunter White, Aaron Edge and Pau Silvestre, and sophomore Theo Bendickson finished first at 3:47.94 in the final event of the night.
White also won boys’ 400 (54.64), while Edge finished second in the event at 55.14, and placed fourth in the pole vault (11’0”).
Senior Carter Bierman won the boys’ discus (119’0”) and placed third in the shot put (43’9.25”).
Junior Drew Richardson finished second in the long jump (18’5”) and senior Darius Tate took second in the boys’ high jump by clearing 5’8”.
Sophomore Eli Post placed third in the discus (108’8”) and eight in the shot put (37’0.25”).
The Comets’ 4x100 relay team of Ryder Stramaglia, Sam Infield, Connor Robbins and Jason Allison finished third at 48.61 seconds, while .
Bendickson, Helminiak, Richardson and sophomore Boden Uren combined to place third in the 4x800 relay (9:38.35).
CP coach Jenny Tuescher and her assistants were very proud of how the meet ran and for all of the help given by the parents and middle school track and field team. They were also extremely pleased with the progression of the teams and the numbers of personal bests had by the athletes.
