Charges pending after Fennimore woman runs over campers

Seven people were injured after a alleged drunk driver crashed ran over a tent at the River Of Lakes campground in the village of Bagley late Saturday night.

Stacy M. Smith, 32, of Fennimore, lost control of her 2007 Ford Freestyle SUV while making a left turn while traveling south on a the campground road at approximately 10:18 p.m., according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Department report. Smith ran over a tent containing seven people, then backed over the same tent.

The occupants of the tent were Nathan C. Deicher, 26, Alex C. Kindness, 25, Marissa E. Marti, 24, Colin D. Obrien, 25, Brian J. Walzak, 25, all of Milwaukee, and Megan A. Marcou, 24, of Brookfield.

Obrien, Kindness, Marti and Franklin were transported to Crossing River Hospital in Prairie Du Chien.

Walzak, Marcou and Deicher were transported to Grant Regional Hospital in Lancaster.

Obrien, Kindness and Walzak were subsequently airlifted to Madison.

Five of the seven were released from the hospitals as of Monday morning, with two of the airlifted injured remaining hospitalized with more serious injuries.

Smith was arrested for OMVI causing great bodily harm with a motor vehicle. She was released on a cash bond of $500 Monday morning, according to the Grant County Jail.

Smith’s vehicle was removed by B&M’s from Bloomington.

Assisting at the scene were Bagley First Responders, two Bloomington Rescue squads, two Cassville Rescue squads, Lancaster Rescue, Tri-State Rescue, two med-flight helicopters from UW Hospital in Madison and Air Care 3 out of Dubuque, Ia.
