Two apprehended after Fayette robbery

Joseph White was arrested after a burglary in Fayette on Wednesday, Jan. 14.

On Wednesday, Jan. 14, at 12:54 p.m. the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office was notified of an ongoing home invasion occurring within the township of Fayette.

When law enforcement responded to the residence, they were informed that the suspects had fled the scene. A short time later, two subjects were taken into custody at a nearby vacant residence.

Steven T. Wiegel, 25, of Darlington, and Joseph A. White, 25, of Dodgeville, have each been tentatively charged with one count of Burglary and two counts of Criminal Trespass to a Dwelling. Both Wiegel and White remain jailed pending a court appearance.

Wiegel and White have been convicted of several counts of theft and other criminal charges since 2011 for White and 2008 for Wiegel.

The investigation of this matter is continuing and more information will be released as it develops. 

Lafayette County Sheriff’s Deputies, Darlington Police Department Officers and K-9, as well as members of the Belmont Police Department and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources responded.
