Valuable coins, jewelry stolen from Westby residence

A number of high-value coins and jewelry were stolen from a private residence in Westby, Aug. 1 or Aug. 2.

According to Vernon County Crime Stoppers, more than 30 separate collectible coins including silver half-dollars, silver dollars, gold coins and three diamond rings were taken. The crime is being investigated by the Westby Police Department.

An inventory of what was taken includes: a 1945 Liberty half-dollar coin; 1954, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1962, 1963 Franklin half-dollar silver coins; 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1976 Kennedy half-dollar silver coins; a 1881 Wyatt Earp silver dollar; a 1883 Geronimo silver dollar; 1884, 1886, 1889, 1900, 1921 uncirculated Morgan silver dollars; a1885 Charles Goodnight silver dollar; a 1888 Bill Pickett silver dollar; a 1889 Bill Tilgham silver dollar; a 1890 John Fremont silver dollar; 1922, 1923, 1924 uncirculated Peace silver dollars; a 1897 Jim Beckworth silver dollar; gold coins; a 1884 Kit Carson silver dollar; a half-carat diamond ring; a 1.12 carat diamond ring; and a one carat diamond ring.

Crime Stoppers reports that there were no signs of forced entry to the residence.

It is hoped that details of this actual case from police records may cause someone to remember and report what they know about the person or persons involved. Callers may be eligible for cash rewards up to $1,000 and will remain confidential.
