Cuba City selects new police officer
Grant County

Cuba City has officially found a new law enforcement officer to join its police department.

Common Council members at the city’s regular January meeting voted without dissent to offer a full-time police officer position to Kyle Jorgenson last week.

By Friday morning, he had accepted the position, said City Clerk-Treasurer Jill Hill.

Jorgenson, of Linden, Wis., is listed on a recent Dean’s List for top-ranked performance in the Southwest Wisconsin Technical College Criminal Justice-Law Enforcement 720 Academy. Chief of Police Terry Terpstra said during last week’s city council meeting that Jorgenson had relayed agreement to the terms of the role and seemed to be a great fit for it.

During the Common Council’s regular November meeting, Terpstra said that the city was in the process of seeking applicants for a fulltime police officer position.

Terpstra commented at the time that he had a feeling the city would “be looking for a while” for someone.

“There are several agencies in the area that are also looking for officers, and they have the same number of applicants as we do: Zero,” added Terpstra Nov. 1.

Terpstra noted then that he and Cuba City Police Officer Zach Lovell were planning to take a trip to Southwest Tech soon to see if they might be able to find anyone from the school’s law enforcement class who would be well-suited to the job.

Jorgenson is pictured in a Southwest Tech Facebook post from November 2022, as a member of the thenmost-recent Law Enforcement Academy graduating class. Jorgenson the police officer job the evening of the council’s Jan. 3 meeting or the next day to kickstart the initial twoweek, new officer onboarding process soon, according to those in attendance at the council meeting.
