Riverdale board plans details of operating referendum update

MUSCODA - District Administrator Jon Schmidt reported that the district received a $350.00 donation from Compeer Financial out of Viroqua that is to be donated to the food service program to help families that need assistance with paying for school lunch. Schmidt showed a promotional video that has been developed in conjunction with a Grant County project promoting the county for prospective residents.  The video can be found on Grant County’s website http://www.co.grant.wi.gov/ underneath the education tab.  

Schmidt went over the timeline of the referendum communication plan for renewing the current $600,000 operating referendum to $700,000 in the upcoming April referendum. Part of the referendum will be used to pay debt for a remodel/building project for the JH/HS building and a portion will be used for operating expenses.  Included in the timeline are community mailings, virtual meetings, and scheduled press releases to distribute information to the community. 

The USDA has extended the Summer Food Program so that all students will receive breakfast and lunch at no charge until the end of the school year.  

Currently volleyball is scheduled for 10 matches with the remaining SWAL teams and practice will start on February 22 and the Riverdale Football team has six games scheduled with the Scenic Bluff conference, with practice starting on March 8.

Mr. Schmidt reported on a bus that currently needs engine work that was unexpected.  

In new business the Riverdale School Board voted to close open enrollment to the district’s special education program with the exception of Early Childhood Program: one space, Elementary Cross-Categorical Program (K-4): one space, and Self-Contained Elementary Cross-Categorical Program (K-6): one space.  The board did not set any space limitations for regular education grades or programs.  

The board approved the contracts of Jeff Campbell and Jonathan Schmidt for two years starting July 1, 2021. 

The board accepted the resignation of Robert Maly as early childhood driver effective January 2nd, 2021. 

The board approved the hiring of Teri Cooper as cook effective January 12, 2021.  

The board reinstated the JH Student Council advisor position for Carrie Pratt for second semester.  

The Riverdale Board of Education approved the recommended summer school dates.  The first session will be held Monday, June 14 to Thursday, July 1, 2021. The second session, school enrichment, will run Monday, August 2, 2021 to Thursday, August 19, 2021. 

The board approved extending the mandatory leave portion of the  Emergency Family and Medical Leave Expansion Act (EFMLEA) until March 31, 2021. 

The board voted to extend the district masks mandate regardless of the state mandate decision after January 19, 2021 when the state mandate is currently set to expire.  

The board voted to allow administrative and board members to games and keep the current policy of four family members for each family and no visiting spectators.  This will be reevaluated in next month’s board meeting.
