Boscobel Community Christmas Festival begins this weekend

The Boscobel Community Christmas Festival kicks off this weekend, beginning with the 5th annual Ugly Sweater 5K and 1 Mile Run/Walk Saturday morning. Registration begins at 7 a.m. at the BMZ Church on Buchanan Street, with the event to start at 8:00.  There is a $15 registration fee for a single person and $40 fee for a family.  Races will be timed by Clark Jillson of AccuRace.    Cookie Decorating Fun

There will be free cookie decorating at the VFW Building on Wisconsin Avenue from 10:30 – 3:30 on Saturday, Dec. 3.  Anyone ages 1 to 100 are welcome to come and decorate their own sugar cookies.  We will have free coffee, punch, and popcorn.  There will also be B-B-Q’s for sale.  Violet Dreams is sponsoring this event.  We will also have some baked goods for sale during this time.

Santa & Mrs. Claus

Mr. and Mrs. Claus will be at the Blaine Gym from 1-3:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Boscobel Big Green 4-H Club will have their food stand open next door at the Tuffley Center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Santa’s Reindeer

Santa’s Reindeer will be available for photos at the intersection of East Oak Street and Wisconsin Avenue from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday.

Fun Kids Activities

There will be face painting, Christmas ornament making, and other fun activities located at the Tuffley Center from 11:00 – 3:00 on Saturday. Food will be served from 11:00 to 3:00 at the Tuffley Center sponsored by Big Green Clover 4-H.

Free Movie

There will be a free showing of the movie “Christmas Melodies” at the Blaine Theatre on Saturday from 12:00-3:00 p.m. We would appreciate a donation of a non perishable food item for admission into the movie which will be donated to the Boscobel Food Pantry.

Horse & Wagon Rides

This will be a free event sponsored by the Boscobel Chamber of Commerce.  They will be located at the Boscobel Depot where you will be able to get into the wagon and enjoy a ride around Boscobel.  Each ride will last about 10 minutes long.  It will begin at 12:00 noon and go until 3:00 pm.

Parade of Lights

The Parade of Lights will start at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, with the parade going through downtown Boscobel.  The theme this year will be “Christmas Toyland.” Line up will start at 4:00.  This year we are going to start on Bluff Street (kiddie corner from the hospital), up the hill on Walnut Street then turn left on Parker Street to Wisconsin Avenue, turn left on Wisconsin Avenue continuing to the Boscobel Fire House and then turn right on Kansas Street, going down to the Ice Skating Rink where the parade will end.

Festival of Trees

The Festival of Trees will kick off this Saturday and continue through December 11. The event will be held at the Boscobel Antique Club Grounds (watch for signs directing you to the Antique Club).  Outdoor display space will also be available for outdoor Winter Wonderland Scenes. Refreshments will be for sale.  Don’t forget to bring a non-perishable food item for the food drive.

Silent Auction

There will be a Silent Auction event going on during the Festival of Trees.  We are asking that any business or community member that would like to donate a gift basket for the event may do so by contacting Barb Puckett at 608-485-1562, or Mary Wilson at 608-485-2221.

Chili & Soup Supper

The Boscobel Rescue Squad will hold an all-you-can-eat Chili and Soup Supper on Saturday from 4:00 p.m. until gone at the Boscobel Fire & Rescue Building located on 510 Wisconsin Avenue.  Age 6 and up-$5, 5 and under Free.  There will be a hat and mitten drive with the donations going to the students of the Boscobel School District.

Community Business & House Decorating Contest

We will be having a decorating contest for anyone living in the Boscobel School District.  Please call 608-375-2672 to participate which is free.  Please leave your name, address, and phone number by December 14th.  The judging will take place on Saturday, December 17th.  There will be Bosco Bucks awarded to the winners.

Gift Wrapping

This year the Boscobel Chamber of Commerce will be offering free gift wrapping service.  The gift wrapping will take place at the Boscobel Depot.  All paper, bows, and name tags will be supplied. We will be doing wrapping during the following times: December 4th 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm, December 11th 12:00 – 2:00, December 18th 12:00 – 2:00.  Free will donations will be accepted.
