‘Dairy State of Mind’
Bruce Fortney - 'Dairy State of Mind' exhibit
BRUCE FORTNEY'S 'Dairy State of Mind' exhibit will be on display in in 'Driftless Historium' Mt. Horeb through September 12. Fortney is a Boscobel artist.

BOSCOBEL - “Dairy State of Mind,” an art installation featuring rural Wisconsin-themed paintings by Boscobel-based Bruce Fortney, is now showing at Mount Horeb’s downtown Driftless Historium (100 S 2nd St) through September 12, 2023.

Bruce’s artwork, large in scale and simple in subject matter, render everyday agrarian scenes into painted moments of graceful beauty. His style is reminiscent of Thomas Hart Benton, John Steuart Curry and Grant Wood—Regionalist artists who were creating from the 1920s to the 1940s.

“I paint where I live,” states Fortney. “Paris would be a wonderful place to live and if I did, I would paint the Eiffel Tower. But I don’t. I live in Wisconsin. Corn, cows, landscapes; I paint what I see and understand.”

Bruce is represented by Brewery Pottery Studio in Mineral Point. Learn more at brucefortney.art.

“Dairy State of Mind” is free and accessible during the Driftless Historium’s open hours of Friday through Tuesday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. All pieces on display are available for sale, with 25% of proceeds graciously donated to the museum’s preservation and education endeavors.
