The Crawford County Fair invites quilters and piecers to enter a quilt block in the ‘Piece of Crawford County.’ Each quilt block needs to be a true 12-½ inches square and may be made in any pattern using any type of material.  The Quilt blocks will be unveiled during the ‘Taste of Crawford County’ event on Wednesday evening, August 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. and on display throughout the fair. ‘People’s Choice’ voting will begin on the evening of August 7 and continue until noon on Sunday, August 11.

The quilt block receiving the most votes (coins in a jar) will be declared the first place winner receiving $50 gift certificate from the Picket Fence in Prairie du Chien, the second place winner will receive a $30 gift certificate from Front Porch Quilts of Prairie du Chien and third place wiinder will receivea $20 gift certificate from Quilt Basket ‘N’ Creations in Viroqua.  After the fair, the “votes” are used to offset the expense of piecing the blocks together and the quilting.  Last year’s blocks have been pieced and quilted into two twin-size quilts and are just a couple of the many items to be raffled off during this year’s fair.

Drop your completed blocks off at the Picket Fence or the Quilt Basket by August 1, 2013.  If those drop-off places are not convenient for you, please contact Nancy Dowling 608-485-2837 or Mary Jo Johnsrude 608-476-2351 no later than August 2 to make arrangements for pickup.  Quilters are reminded to attach a slip of paper to the back of their quilt block with name, address, and telephone number.

All of the quilt blocks will be displayed throughout the fair and become the property of the Crawford County Fair. Again this year, all these unique quilt blocks will be made into quilts, which will be used for a fundraiser supporting future fair events and improvements.

Please support the contest sponsors. Fairgoers look forward to seeing quilters and their creative handiwork at the ‘Piece of Crawford County’ event and at this year’s Crawford County Fair, Gays Mills, Wisconsin, August 7-11.
