Lafayette County Area 4th of July Festivities

Shullsburg
    The 2013 Shullsburg 4th of July celebration will take place from Saturday, June 29 until Sunday, June 30 as well as on Wednesday, July 3 and Thursday, July 4 at Badger Park in Shullsburg.
    Starting this weekend there will be softball and youth tournaments going on as well as the beer tent with food stands available.
    Then on Wednesday the Firemen’s pork supper will be served from 4:30-7:30 p.m. and an inflatable carnival will be available starting at 4:30 p.m. The annual talent show will begin at 7 p.m. If anyone still wishes to sign up, they can contact Andrea at 608-482-0385.
    All types of entertainment and ages are welcome to perform. A sound system will be provided but performers need to bring their own CD if they will be using music.  It is asked that entries be called in by July 2 or you will need to be at the park by 6:00 p.m. to get information prepared for judges. There will be prize money awarded to performers in each age group.
    Some benches and tables will be available for seating, however you may want to bring your own chairs or blankets.
    Then at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday night will be the Minute-to-Win-It. Contestants must be in teams of five and can call Lynne Ranum at 965-3609 to sign up. Red Bomber DJ will be providing music in the beer tent.
    Festivities for Thursday, the 4th of July will begin with the parade at 10:30 a.m. Anyone wishing to enter the parade can call Carol at 608-965-3128. After the parade the inflatable carnival, food stands, cheese curds, French fries, a beer tent, ball tournaments and bingo will be available for celebration attendees.
    A dunk tank will be in action from noon to 4:30 p.m. and free kids games will be going on at 1 p.m. Then at 2:00 the fire department kids water fights will take place as well as the pedal tractor pull and there will be a free petting zoo from 2-6 p.m.
    The Sunshine Band will be providing live music starting at 6 p.m. and a pie auction will take place at 7:30 p.m. with the raffle drawing at 8:30 p.m..
    At 9:45 p.m. will be the fireworks show with Hot Rod DJ in the beer tent after the fireworks are concluded.
    The Shullsburg 4th of July committee has also announced that they will be offering a big bonus for the youngsters attending this year’s celebration. Buy a wrist band to get unlimited access to the inflatable attractions: $5 for Wednesday evening July 3 and $10 for all day Thursday July 4 and you will get free admission to the Badger Park Pool for that same time period. Come have fun and cool off with a dip in the pool, all for one price.
    The rain date for the ball games is set for Monday, July 1 and the rain date for the fireworks is Friday, July 5.

Wiota
    The Wiota Firemen’s 43rd annual July 4th celebration will begin on July 4  at 1 p.m. with the home talent game against Verona. Tournament ball games will begin at 4 p.m. with music in the beer tent provided by Long Hard Ride.
    Then on July 5 the ball games will continue at 6:30 p.m. with Long Hard Ride DJ providing music in the beer tent from 7 p.m. midnight.
    On Saturday ball tournament games and volleyball will kick off at 9 a.m. The Wiota John Deere Collectors Club will organize the kids pedal tractor pull for ages 3-10. Sign-up will be at 10 a.m. with pulls beginning at 11 a.m.
    Bingo, a nickel pitch and a fish pond will be available and the beer tent will have music all afternoon and night with Rockabilly Junction performing from 8 p.m. to midnight.
    Then on Sunday, July 7 there will be a church service in the park at 9:30 a.m. and a car show (no judging) put on by the Black Hawk Cruisers from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. The parade will start at noon with kids ball games taking place after the parade. Bingo, a nickel pitch and a fish pond will again be available.
    The Wiota John Deere Collector’s Club display will be at the Wiota Church after the parade and the championship volleyball game will be after the parade as well.
    The variety show will be from 6:30-9 p.m. and Long Hard Ride DJ will again be providing music in the beer tent. Raffle and awards will be announced at 9 p.m. and the fireworks display will take place at dusk.
