City clerk retirement announced
Bids awarded to begin prep for Bender's expansion
City Margaret Sprague

The Fennimore Common Council accepted the retirement letter of City Clerk/Treasurer Margaret Sprague at their bi-monthly meeting Monday evening, Oct. 23. Sprague has served in the position for 29 years. She will finish her tenure on Dec. 31, 2017.

Alderperson David Streif’s motion for a formal thank you for Sprague’s service, in addition to accepting the letter and posting the position vacancy, passed unanimously.

The council discussed the three-page job description for Sprague’s position, which was created by Mayor Ryan Boebel. He told the council that he had looked at other municipalities’ job description and at resources such as the League of Wisconsin Municipalities to compile the description, then gave it to Sprague, who added some items to the comprehensive list of duties.

Whoever is hired will need to be bondable, it was noted during the discussion. Clarifications were made on required qualifications, and those that are preferred.
