More signs of spring: Yard waste, brush pickup, spring cleanup

The City of Platteville will pick up brush the first and third Mondays of each month.

Yard rakings and grass clippings must be in a City of Platteville $1 bag and placed curbside for pickup on Thursdays.
The city’s annual spring clean-up will be held on Monday, May 18 and Tuesday, May 19, with pick up the same day as normal refuse collection. Items must be placed neatly at the curb by 7 a.m. on the day of pick up. This service is provided to one- and two-family dwellings only.

Specific items that will not be picked up include batteries and tires, appliances including microwaves, refuse from major construction and remodeling projects, as well as oil, anti-freeze, insecticides, and hazardous chemicals. Electronics (computers, printers, computer monitors, computer mouse, keyboards, and all accessories, televisions, DVD players, VCR’s, DVR’s, fax machines and cell phones) also will not picked up. To dispose of an electronic item, contact Faherty Recycling, 348-9586 for additional information.

All items must be stacked neatly and be in a pile no larger than 10 feet x 4 feet x 4 feet. Scrap metal should be stacked neatly separate from other refuse. Scrap metal and yard waste does not count toward the maximum size limit.

Garden and yard waste will be included in the spring clean up and will be picked up by city crews May 20–22. Garden and yard waste should be bagged separately from weekly garbage, and the $1 bags are not required during this special pick up only.
