Great Apple Race returns to Gays Mills Apple Festival

GAYS MILLS - Once again the Apple Race will be held at the Gays Mills Apple Festival.

The Apple Race is back by popular demand and will take place on the bridge by the dam, on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 11 a.m.

Apples will be dumped by the bushel, in three different heats. The apples will go under the bridge and float downstream to the "sunken bench," where two people will be waiting in kayaks to retrieve the first three apples to reach the finish line in each heat.

First prize is $50 cash, second prize $25 cash and third prize $15 cash, pay out immediately if the winners present if not we will mail you the prize money Tickets will be sold 3 for $5, 7 for $10 and 15 for $20, apples will be marked with a permanent marker with the number corresponding with the ticket that the person purchases.

Race organizer Risha Murray will be selling tickets Friday night from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Apple Festival Informational Booth on Main Street. On Saturday morning, she will be selling at the Library Book Sale from 9 to 11 a.m. and again from 1 to 3 p.m. at the informational booth. All race apples will be donated from the local orchards.
