Kickapoo Valley Reserve Winter Festival schedule
Event Winterfest

LA FARGE - The Kickapoo Valley Reserve Winter Festival, Saturday, Jan. 13, will feature all-day family-friendly activities from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Activities will take place at the KVR Visitor Center, State Road 131, LaFarge; at the Town of Stark Building, S3803 Corps Road. LaFarge; at the LaFarge Community Center; at Wildcat Mountain State Park; and at the Rockton Bar.

A shuttle bus will run between the festival locations from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with pickups at the KVR Visitors Center and the Town of Stark Building.

NEW for 2018 - Snow Excavation Site for Kids, Blacksmithing by Robert Schultz, Dam Ski-Daddle Race, and Traditional Wisdom Self-Guided Tour.

10-11 a.m. Falconry through the Ages by River Valley Raptors with live birds (KVR)

10 a.m.–12 p.m. Ho-Chunk Winter Game Snow Snake Competition, and Blacksmithing by Robert Schultz (KVR)

10 a.m.–2 p.m. Face Painting by LaFarge Schools Art Club, Snow Sculpture by Martino Studios, and Hiking with  Llamas by Midwest Llama Packing (KVR)

10:30-11:30 a.m.   Archery for All Ages (KVR)

10:30 a.m.–12 p.m. Tri-state Alaskan   Malamute Club Sled Dog & Skijoring  Races, Ice Cave Presentation and Hike (hike to follow presentation at 11:30 a.m. – hike is slippery), (Town of Stark Building)

ll a.m.– 2 p.m.        Ancient  Edibles Talk with Sam Thayer, Traditional Wisdom Ho-Chunk Story Telling (KVR)

11:30 a.m.–1 p.m. Chili & Bread Contest Sampling $5/ bowl & ballot  by LaFarge Lions Club (KVR)

11:30 a.m. Register  for Dam-ski-daddle (short, fun, silly race  on skis - open  to anyone - bring your own skis), (Town of Stark)

12 p.m.–1 p.m. Drone Talk & Presentation (KVR)

12pm to 2pm Dam-ski-daddle, Prizes for best costume! (Town of Stark)

12:30 - 1:30 p.m. Ancient  Edibles Hike with Sam Thayer (KVR)

1–2 p.m. Traditional Wisdom Ho-Chunk Storytelling, Archery for All Ages, and Ancient Astronomy Talk & Viewing (KVR)

1-2:30 p.m. Snow Snake Competition (KVR); Dog Weight Pull Competition, and Traditional Wisdom Demos Wood carving,  Hoocak  Basketry, Rope making and Flint Knapping (Town of Stark)

2:30 p.m. Kickapoo Live Auction, and Children’s Traditional Craft (KVR)

4 p.m. Raffle Drawing for Blacksmith creation (need not be present to win) (KVR)

5–9 p.m. Candlelight Ski, Snowshoe or Hike, Winter Star Gazing by KVR Astro  Educators (Wildcat Mountain State Park

6–8 p.m. Old Time Bingo by LaFarge Partners (LaFarge Community Center)

8:30–ll p.m. Rockton  Bar invites you to Burch Brothers Band, Food & Drink Specials (Rockton Bar)

Activities subject to change due to weather conditions & availability. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.  Dogs on leash welcome. No dogs allowed in buildings. Free and open to the public.
