Mother, baby involved in one-car crash in Christiana township

A 25-year-old rural Westby woman and her five-month-old baby were in a one-vehicle crash in Christiana township Jan. 27.

According to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office in Viroqua, at 1:45 p.m. Sheila Larson was driving northbound on East Ridge Road near Larson Road.

She lost control on a corner while swerving to miss an oncoming vehicle, left the roadway and overturned into the ditch.

Larson was extricated from the vehicle by the Westby-Christiana Fire Department, while the infant child was removed by the Wisconsin State Patrol.

Larson reported no injuries and was wearing a seat belt. Her baby was restrained in a child safety seat. The baby was transported to Vernon Memorial Healthcare in Viroqua by Tri-State Ambulance to be checked out.

Also assisting at the scene were the Westby Police Department and Westby First Responders.

The accident remains under investigation.
