The new mixed-use low-impact MVP Trail had its grand opening at Mound View Park Sept. 29.

More than 100 Platteville area residents gathered Sept. 29 to celebrate the opening of a new mixed-use, low-impact trail at Mound View Park.

The celebration started with a brief ribbon=cutting and was followed by an afternoon of trail tours, obstacle courses, and other hiking and biking-related activities. Numerous families with children participated in the event, taking advantage of the beautiful afternoon and the opportunity to join the fun.

“This event and project was a huge success on all accounts,” said City of Platteville Parks and Recreation Committee chair Jes “Spinner” Reyerson. “Everyone was very excited about the trail and couldn’t wait to start using it. With luck, we can continue to serve and build upon this need in the community by developing an ever-growing trail system.”

The MVP Trail Project was developed by Platteville Human Powered Trails in conjunction with Platteville Parks and Recreation and the Platteville Community Fund. PHPT is a non-profit organization whose primary goal is to enhance the Platteville community and Tri-State region by providing high-quality, shared-use trails.
