TOWN OF WATERLOO — The search for a Dodgeville man missing for six weeks ended when his body was found in a farm field last week.

Michael R. Upman, 41, was identified by dental records after an autopsy in Madison, the Grant County Sheriff’s Department reported Sunday.

The Sheriff’s Department reported Thursday that human remains had been found two days earlier by a farmer mowing a pasture less than one mile from where Upman’s Chevrolet Suburban was found in an old quarry on Grant County N Aug. 3.

On Wednesday, the Sheriff’s Department, Wisconsin Crime Laboratory Mobile Crime Lab, and Wisconsin State Patrol reconstruction team recovered “human remains as well as other items,” the news release said.

Upman had been missing since June 26. The cause of death was listed as a gunshot wound. Foul play is not suspected, although the investigation is continuing.
