The search for a 5-year-old girl who fell into the Wisconsin River at the Gotham boat landing Monday night continued Wednesday morning, with over 30 agencies involved.

Amber Christianson was playing with siblings near the east side of the Gotham boat landing when she fell into the river at approximately 6:15 p.m. Monday. The area has steep drop-offs and a swift current.

Lone Rock Fire and EMS were dispatched at approximately 6:30 p.m. and were assisted by fire departments from Spring Green, Blue River and Cazenovia, as well as the Richland County Sheriff’s Department and Richland County Emergency Management. The search was discontinued at 9 p.m. Monday due to darkness and weather conditions affecting visibility.

The search resumed early Tuesday morning, with further assistance from DNR wardens, who were searching by both boat and plane. The Baraboo Police Department was searching by the air with a drone. By Tuesday afternoon the Sauk County Dive Team and Iowa County Tech Rescue Team were called in to assist in the search.

“We understand the emotional impact this has on our community and appreciate all the help that concerned citizens have offered,” said Richland County Emergency Management Director Darin Gudgeon. “However, at this time we are asking for people not to self deploy, as there are plenty of resources out on the water.”
