Three injured in two-vehicle crash

Three people were injured in a two-vehicle accident in Liberty township Feb. 13.

According to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office in Viroqua, at 11:06 a.m., Phillip Schultz, 81, of Viroqua, was turning left onto Hwy. 56 and failed to see a westbound vehicle driven by Michelle Hagen, 27, Readstown.

Hagen attempted to swerve to avoid Schultz’s vehicle, but could not. Her vehicle went off the road and down an embankment.

Hagen and two juvenile passengers in her vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries.  They were transported by the Kickapoo Valley Rescue Squad to Vernon Memorial Healthcare in Viroqua.

Schultz and a passenger in his vehicle were not injured.

All of the adults involved were wearing seat belts, and the juveniles involved were in child safety seats.

Also assisting at the scene was the Viola Fire Department.

The  accident is under investigation.
