Bernard E. “Barney” McDermott, 80, of Platteville, died on Saturday, Aug. 11, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, Iowa.  Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 16 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Platteville. Father Faustino Ruiz and Deacon Bill Bussan will officiate. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Platteville at a later date. Chapel Military Rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #42 and VFW Post #5274. Friends may call from 4–8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 15 at the Melby-Bendorf Funeral Home and Crematory in Platteville. There will be a parish rosary at 3:45 p.m. Friends may also call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the Bernard E. McDermott Memorial Fund.
