David L. Ingwell, age 59 of Rewey, passed away Friday, Dec. 23, 2016 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, following a brief illness. He was born Feb. 13, 1957 in Dodgeville, the son of Lawrence and Marion (Hardyman) Ingwell. Dave graduated from Darlington High School in 1975 and later went on to graduate from the University of Wisconsin – Platteville with a degree in Agricultural Mechanization. He was united in marriage to Colleen Polkinghorn on Oct. 25, 1980 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mineral Point. Dave grew up in Fayette Township on the family farm. He and Colleen farmed in rural Hollandale, before moving to the Ingwell family farm in 1992. In 1998, he went to work for Mt. Horeb Implement first as a mechanic and later in the parts department. Dave finished his career at UW-Platteville with the College of Engineering, Math and Science where he loved working with the students.
Dave is survived by his wife Colleen at home; two children: Mary Jean (Jeff) Hirsch of Rewey and Donny (Liana) Ingwell of the greater Seattle, Wash. area; three grandchildren: Brittany, Donna, and David Hirsch; two brothers: Ron (Fanny) Ingwell of Darlington and Larry (Patty) Ingwell of Florida; and two sisters: Sue (Mark) DeLeon of San Antonio, Texas and Mary Ingwell of Darlington and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Dave was a member of Rewey United Methodist Church and also served on the Rewey Village Board. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and camp. He was an exceptional athlete and was a fierce competitor while playing both fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball. Dave was devoted to his family and cherished the time he spent with them creating memories that will stay with them for a lifetime. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.
A funeral service will be held Friday, Dec. 30, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Belmont United Methodist Church (101 E. State Street, Belmont WI) with Rev. Clark Grosvenor officiating. A visitation will be held Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Erickson Funeral Home (508 Main St, Darlington) and from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Friday at the church.
