Donald E. Flannery
1938 - 2016
Donald Flannery

Donald E. Flannery age 77 of Argyle passed away on Jan. 29, 2016 at UW Hospital & Clinics in Madison.  He was born on Sept. 23, 1938 to Everett and Ella (Hendrickson) Flannery in Browntown.  Don attended Rat Hollow Country School, and then graduated from Argyle High School in 1957.  He found his two greatest loves in life as a boy:  his future wife, Pat playing softball, and farming, at his parent’s side.  Don spent his entire life dedicated to both of these loves in the Argyle area.  He married his high school sweetheart, Pat Hassenfelt on June 28, 1958 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Argyle where they were active members and raised their family.  Don and Pat farmed together all their married life, proudly buying and building their “true home” in 1965, where they warmly welcomed anyone who would stop by.  Filled with love and faith, they were blessed with 2 children: Debbie (Michael) Plishka and Dan Flannery, and Don passed on his love for family, hard work, the outdoors, animals, hunting and fishing to them. Don had a rich life with Pat and enjoyed music and dancing, playing cards and dominoes, time with family and friends, horseback riding, gardening and collecting Allis Chalmers farm toys.  Don was one of a kind, a very special and beloved husband and father who always put everyone else first.  “His family was his world”, and we know how blessed we were to have him.
Don is survived by his wife: Pat at home; two children: Debbie (Michael) Plishka of Lake Villa, Ill. and Dan Flannery of Brodhead; one sister: Virginia Swingen of Argyle; two brothers-in-law: Dick (Bette) Hassenfelt of Janesville and Jerry Hassenfelt of Argyle; one sister-in-law: Geraldine (Myron) Olson of Monroe; nine nieces, nephews and their families and many other dear close cousins and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother-in-law: Russell Swingen; and one sister-in-law: Ann Hassenfelt.
Don was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and former member of its church council.  He was also a past member of Darlington Irish Club, Blackhawk Saddle Club, numerous euchre clubs in the area and the Eagles Bowling Club.
