Donna J. McDermott age 80 of Darlington formerly of Wiota passed away Friday, Nov. 25, 2016 at her son’s home.  She was born on Sept. 27, 1936 in Nora, Ill. the daughter of Glenn and Helen (Hall) Scott.  Donna grew up in the Wiota area and graduated from South Wayne High School in 1954. She married Bernard S. McDermott of Shullsburg, on Oct. 5, 1957 at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Shullsburg. Following graduation she attended UW-Platteville for two years.  Donna went on to receive her certification as a beautician from Capri College of Cosmetology in Dubuque, Iowa. In the early eighties she also received her Realtors license and later an Electrolysis certification from Madison. She owned and operated Donna’s Beauty shop in Wiota for over fifty years before retiring in 2015. Donna also worked as a CNA at Lafayette Manor in Darlington for a number of years.
Donna is survived by two sons: Roger (Barbara Erbs) McDermott of Blanchardville, Timothy (Julie Bennett) McDermott of Darlington, seven grandchildren: Jasmine, Amy, Jason (Amanda), Jeremy, David, Bristol, Brianna and one great-granddaughter: Brylie.   One sister: Glenda (Paul) Finley of Wiota and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bernard in 1999 and three brothers: Kenny, Vernon and Robert Scott.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Gratiot and it’s Council of Catholic Women.  Donna was also a member of the Wiota Firemans Auxiliary and Zilmer-Riley American Legion Post # 84 of Monroe.
Donna loved spending time with her family, watching mystery movies, and playing Euchre and Rummy with her friends and family.  She also enjoyed collecting antiques, refinishing furniture and crocheting.  Donna made a number of afghans for her family and others through the years.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church (344 N. Judgement Street, Shullsburg) with Reverend Sudhakar Devarapu officiating. Burial was in St. Matthew’s cemetery in Shullsburg.  A visitation was held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2016 at the Erickson Funeral Home in Shullsburg where a Rosary was prayed at 4:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the church.
