Georgia Evelyn Sandmire, 94, of West Lima, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 16, 2015, at the Sylvan Crossing Care Center in Jefferson.

Evelyn was born on Aug. 5, 1920 to Noah and Della (Jones) Fisher, in the town of West Lima.  She was an elementary school teacher for over 35 years, teaching and caring for area children in numerous one-room school houses throughout Vernon and Richland counties.  During the Vietnam War, Evelyn took a brief respite from teaching to work for a military equipment manufacturing company in Hillsboro.  She concluded her teaching career with the Kickapoo school district, in Viola.  For many years following her retirement, she was a frequent traveler to La Farge and Richland Center to visit friends and family.  Never one for distant travels, Evelyn remained close to “her home on the ridge”—where she was born, raised and lived for almost 90 years.

Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Pamela of rural Stoughton; and her son, Dean and his wife Janice of Garden Ridge, Texas.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Darrell; her parents; and her brother Don, formerly of Viroqua.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at 3 p.m. at the Seland Huston Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery. Friends may call at the Seland Huston Funeral Home on Thursday, June 25, 2015 from 1 p.m. until the service at 3 p.m. The Pratt Funeral and Cremation Service is assisting the family with their arrangements.
