Karla Olson Shaw, 84, of Viroqua passed away on August 5, 2012 at Sannes Skogdalen in Soldiers Grove.

Karla was born January 21, 1928 in Hanau, Germany, one of six daughters of Jean and Theresa (Strauss) Schultheis. She was a survivor of WWII. She worked in Germany as a telephone operator. In 1954 she married William P. Olson, an American soldier stationed in Germany. They had four sons, Bill, Norman, Raymond and Mike. She was divorced and later married Richard Shaw of Soldiers Grove.

She worked for 36 years at Vernon Memorial Hospital in the nursery. She enjoyed trips with her friends, bowling, card parties, cooking and time with her family.

Karla was preceded in death by three sisters, Elsie, Hilde and Elfreida; her husband, Richard and her sons, Mike and Raymond.

She is survived by her two sons, Bill (Sarah) Olson of Readstown and Norman (Jill) Olson of Steuben; six grandchildren, Melissa Olson of Westby, Eric (Keely) Olson of Genoa, Jessica Ezelle of Jackson, TN, Mikayla Olson of Steuben, Ilise & Braelyn Olson of Readstown; five great-grandchildren, Quentin Furlano, Chasity Ezelle, Gunner Ezelle, Jaidyn Olson and Ayden Olson; and sisters, Margarete (Hermann) Blatz and Margot Overbeck, both of Hanau, Germany.

Karla was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend and will be dearly missed by all.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Sannes Skogdalen Nursing Home for all the wonderful caring service they provided for Karla these last few years of her life.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker Street, Hwy 56, in Viroqua. The Rev. Dr. Steven Fossum officiated with burial in the Viroqua Cemetery. Friends called at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of the service at 11 a.m.
