Lois Permelia Harris, age 90 years, of Hillsboro, passed away on Friday, April 11, 2014 at Milestone Senior Living in Hillsboro, Wis.

She was born on Sept. 14, 1923, to Ernie and Vera (Marshall) Wong.  She grew up on Burr Ridge and attended Eastman School.  Lois met the love of her life while she was working at the UW Union in Madison.  Alver Harris was a Texas native stationed at Truax Field.  He told his friend the first time he saw Lois that she was the one he was going to marry!  And he did – April 26, 1946.

Lois and Alver moved to Austin, Texas in 1951, and lived there until Alver’s death in 2002, when Lois returned to Wisconsin to be closer to her family.

She was an active member of the First Congregational Church and enjoyed working at the Good Samaritan Thrift Store.  She loved to spend time with her family, garden, bake, and crochet – her “pot scrubbers” are legendary!  Lois’ faith in God, beautiful smile, sweet southern drawl, love of life, wonderful sense of humor, and genuine concern for others, endeared her to everyone she met.

Lois is survived by her brother, Leo Wong of Hillsboro, sister-in-law, Angeline Boggiano of Hillsboro, nine nieces, seven nephews, relatives and special friends in Wisconsin and Texas.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister and brother-in-law, Lucille and Virgil Myers, her brother, Arthur Wong, her sister-in-law, Doris Wong, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Wynette and Maydell Harris, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Helen and Carl Hudson.

Memorial Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in Hillsboro with Rev. Isaac Fleming officiating.  Friends may call at the church from 10 to 11 a.m.  Interment will be in the Forest – Burr Cemetery, rural Hillsboro.
