Marietta Larson, age 86 of Dodgeville, formerly of Gratiot, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Upland Hills Health in Dodgeville. She was born Aug. 16, 1930 in New Richmond, the daughter of Paul and Hildegard (Young) Ziemer. Marietta graduated from Darlington High School in 1948. She was united in marriage to Charles “Red” Larson on Sept. 12, 1953 at West Wiota Lutheran Parsonage in Wiota. Marietta lived in the Gratiot area most of her life. She was a nurse’s aide at St. Clare Hospital in Monroe, Darlington Hospital, Hazel Green Hospital, and Pleasant View Nursing Home in Monroe, and later was a caregiver for private families in their homes.
Marietta is survived by her children: Kim Larson of Gratiot, Tammy (Jon) Griffiths of rural Gratiot, Michael (Christy) Larson of Dodgeville, Penny (Dan) Schwark of Hazel Green, Tina Gensler of Madison, and Traci (Ryan) Weigel of Platteville; ten grandchildren: Kari and Krissa Griffiths, Simon (DeAnn) and Cory Larson, Kaelyn, Kenadee, and Keegan Weigel, Charlie Marie Larson, Kade Larson, and Kellen Murphy; two great-grandchildren: Kole Griffiths and Owen Larson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two sisters: Audrey Larson and Janice Reichling.
Marietta was a past member of Gratiot Women’s Auxiliary. She was a passionate Green Bay Packer fan. Marietta spent her free time gardening, doing crossword puzzles, sitting outside soaking up the sun, and watching “The Young and the Restless.” She cherished the time she spent with her family creating memories that they will remember forever.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. at Erickson Funeral Home (508 Main Street, Darlington) where Rev. Nick J. McElrath of First Baptist Church in Darlington officiated. A visitation was held Tuesday, April 18, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. at Erickson Funeral Home. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ericksonfuneralhome.com.
