Nancy Wayne Luce Barnard, age 91 of Dodgeville, formerly of Darlington, passed away April 20, 2018 at Upland Hills Health in Dodgeville.
She was born Nov. 21, 1926 in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Roscoe R. and Julia Lake (West) Luce of Elkhorn. Nancy proudly graduated from Kemper Hall in Kenosha, in 1944 and later from Monticello College in Godfrey, Ill., in 1946.
She was united in marriage to Gilbert F. Barnard on July 27, 1946 at All Saints Ravenswood in Chicago. Nancy grew up in Elkhorn, raised her family in Darlington where she made many friends and later moved to Beaumont, Calif., where she lived for 40 years. She moved to CrestRidge in Dodgeville in 2016. When she turned 50, Nancy found her vocation as a nurse by returning to college to earn her LPN certification and began a 20-year nursing career.
Nan is survived by her five children: Julia (John) Simonson of Mineral Point, Charles (Carol) Barnard and Barb (Bill) Schilling both of Darlington, Karen (Tim) Moore of Worden, Ill., and Don (Laura) Barnard of Darlington; thirteen grandchildren: Tom Whitford, Lindsay Whitford Becker, Steve Whitford, Dana Wedig, Aric Barnard, Nathan Barnard, Andy Schilling, Jody White, Kate Brattlie, Brian Schilling, Aisha Boster, Chris Barnard, and Matt Barnard; and was very proud of her 32 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Gilbert; and an infant great-grandson: Elliot.
Nan enjoyed gardening, singing, painting and crafts, reading, feeding her songbirds, and playing with her beloved dog, Babe.
A gathering for family and friends of Nancy’s was held Sunday, April 22, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at BridgeView Restaurant (201 Christensen Drive, Darlington). A private burial will take place at a later date in Elkhorn. At Nancy’s request, her remains will be cremated. The Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington is serving the family.
