    Rosa Marie (Rosie) Badertscher of Monroe, formerly of rural Gratiot, age 89 passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2015 at Graceland Manor in Monroe. Rosie was born in Winterthur Canton Zurich Switzerland on Aug. 7, 1926, the daughter of Wilhelm and Rosa (Winterberg) Baer.
    Rosie was united in marriage to Christian Badertscher on Oct. 29, 1949 in Brutten Canton Zurich Switzerland. They lived in Switzerland until 1958 when she, Christian, and their two daughters moved to the Darlington area where they farmed until retiring in 1979 and moving to Gratiot.
    Rosie loved flowers, gardening, and cooking many Swiss favorites. She was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Darlington.
    She is survived by two daughters: Nelli (Dan) McDermott and Susi Rygh both of Monroe; one sister: Heidi Back of Rappersville, Switzerland; one brother: Willi Baer of Switzerland; one step-sister: Elsbeth Baer of Switzerland; five grandchildren; many nieces and nephews from Switzerland and the United States; and one special nephew: Dr. James Badertscher. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1997; one sister: Margrit Roth; and one granddaughter in infancy.
    A celebration of Rosie’s life was held Monday, Dec. 14, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel United Church of Christ (339 E. Louisa St, Darlington) with Rev. Larry Balleine officiating. A visitation was held Monday, Dec. 14, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. The Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington is serving the family. www.ericksonfuneralhome.com.
    For those who prefer, a memorial fund has been established in Rosie’s name.
The family would to thank the staff at Graceland Manor for all of their compassionate care and concern over the past four years.
