Shirley Jean Oetzman, age 62, of Hillsboro, died Tuesday evening, June 17, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on Sept. 21, 1951 in Reedsburg, the daughter of Durlin and Marcella (Rusch) Behn.  On June 20, 1970, she was married to Daniel D. Oetzman.  Shirley worked as a secretary for Traeder Enterprises in Hillsboro.  She was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Wonewoc, where she was active with the Care Ministry program.  Shirley enjoyed gardening, scrapbooking, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Daniel; two sons: Scott Oetzman, of Rio and Jason (Rebecca) Oetzman, of Hillsboro; two grandchildren: Jaxson and Arabella Oetzman; three sisters: Donna Behn, of Janesville; Betty (Gene) Berg, of Waunakee and Carolyn Behn, of Waunakee; two brothers: Dennis (Dawn) Behn, of Reedsburg and Donald (Patti) Behn, of Reedsburg; her mother-in-law: Juanita Oetzman, of Hillsboro; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her son, Steven, in 1970; her parents; her sister: Sharon Palmer; her brother-in-law: Roy Palmer and her father-in-law: Dean Oetzman.

Funeral services were conducted at 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, 2014 at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Wonewoc with Pastor Peter Snyder officiating.  Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery in North Freedom.  There was a visitation from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday at the church. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Care Ministry, in Wonewoc; Hope Lodge in Marshfield; Scenic Hills HOPE in Hillsboro; St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Wonewoc; Hillsboro Charity Tractor Pull or the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation would be appreciated.

The Hoof Funeral Home in Reedsburg served the family.
