Platteville sophomore-to-be Becca Hoyer is this week’s Mast Water Technology SWnews4U.com Athlete of the Week after earning All-Tournament honors at the US Junior Nationals Midwest Girls Summer Showcase in Indianapolis, July 23–25.
Hoyer, along with Platteville High School teammates Josie Nies and Sami Martin, helped led the Dubuque Elite U14 club team to the U14 championship at the 32-team tournament.
Dubuque Elite went 3–0 in pool play then notched its four victory of the weekend in the semifinals of the single elimination of the championship bracket. The Elite then rallied from a 10-point fourth quarter deficit to defeat Lafayette Blue Chips 63–59 in the U14 championship game.
Elite went 33–1 during the spring and summer AAU travel season, winning all seven tournaments its competed in, including the Spring Tune-Up in Ames, IA on April 8–9, the Under Armour Spring Showcase in La Crosse on April 22–23, the Mill City Invitational in Bloomington, MN on April 29–30, the 8th Annual Wisconsin Elite Shootout in Wanakee on May 20–21, the Under Armour Cheesehead Classic in Waukesha on June 24–25 and the Simply the Best Tournament in Ames, IA on July 6–8.
Hoyer averaged 4.5 points and 1.6 steals per game as Platteville’s sixth man last winter as a freshman, helping the Hillmen to a 21–5, a Southwest Wisconsin Conference Championship and a berth in the WIAA Division 2 sectionals finals.
