BENTON — The senior trio of Chandler Kelly, Ben Beau and Brandon Hoppman combined to rush for 272 yards and scored seven combined touchdowns to lead the host Benton/Scales Mound/Shullsburg football team to a dominating 53-24 victory over the visiting 5th-ranked Fennimore Golden Eagles (1-1) in a Southwest Wisconsin COVID-Spring  Small Schools Conference game last Thursday night.

Kelly ran eight times for 98 yards and a touchdown and had two catches for 90 yards and another TD. He scored on a 63-yard pass from Jacob Duerr late in the first half to give the Knights a 26-12 halftime advantage and later scored on a 71-yard run to cap BSMS's 21-point fourth quarter outburst. 

Beau ran five times for 89 yards, including a 57-yard TD in the opening quarter, then had a momentum-changing 80-yard kickoff return TD at the end of the third quarter to push the lead to 32-18 after the Eagles had made it a one score game at 26-18 on a 1-yard run by quarterback Max Kenney. 

Hoppman ran a team-high 11 times for 85 yards and scored three TDs  on runs of 40, 13 and 20 yards, and he had two interceptions on defense in the Knights' 53-24 win.

The Knights (1-1) will host Cuba City  (1-1) Friday at 7 p.m. The Cubans are coming off a 14-7 overtime loss to league-leading Belleville last Saturday afternoon.

Mahoney rushed for 154 yards and four touchdowns on 22 Carrie's, and a pair of two-point conversions in the Warriors' 56-12 victory over visiting Southwestern last Thursday night.
