Hampton only Hillmen to earn first-team honors

Lancaster sophomore Bri Hampton earned first-team All-SWC honors after scoring nine goals and passing out five assists.

     The 2014 Platteville/Lancaster girls’ soccer team battled through an up and down season filled with injuries, but in the end seven players received postseason honors for their outstanding play.
     Lancaster sophomore Bri Hampton was the lone Hillmen to earn a spot on the 12-player first team. The diminutive midfielder finished third on the team in scoring with nine goals and five assists on 31 shots. Hampton was an honorable mention All-SWC selection a year ago as a freshman.
     Freshman Sami Brookens,  junior Cassie Hamer, sophomore Madi Knockel, and  seniors Nalee Xiong and Macy Johnson earned second-team honors, while senior Melissa Kaiser received honorable mention.
     Brookens scored a team-high 12 goals on a team-high 43 shots and passed out four assists to tie for the team lead in scoring with 28 points.
     Hamer scored nine goals on 41 shots and tallied a team-high 10 assists to share team scoring honors with 29 points. She was also a second-team All-SWC selection a year ago.
     Knockel, Xiong and Johnson were the core of Platteville/Lancaster’s defensive unit. Knockel was also a gifted scorer on free kicks and corner kicks. She finished the year with seven goals on 21 shots and also passed out seven assists. She was an honorable mention all-conference pick last year.
     Xiong finished the year with one assist and one shot. Johnson had two shots.
     Kaiser was a starting forward for the Hillmen and finished the year with nine goals on 29 shots and one assist.
     The Hillmen finished the season 8–15–0 overall after going 8–6 in SWC play to finish in third place.
